Satisfaction in the sun

getting satisfaction
in the sun
under a smurf blue sky

thinkin’ ’bout how
it really is
now or never

look at the newer me
fate pursuing me

i can feel the energy in the air
it feel like i’m supposed to be here

because i am,
as are you!

Getting Real in the Rain

IMG_3279

I always dreaded our rain walks

But today the sun is bright
And the spattering of rain
Falling on my face

Is not a nuisance
As it once was

But instead
Makes me feel

REAL

(NSFW due to language)

A LOVE-ly post

How to find true LOVE?
It is that
Which makes one’s heart sing!

There is no breadcrumb trail
To follow through your days

It’s a matter
Of getting deeper in
Any way you can

I can see you’re new awake
Let me assure you, friend

Every day is
Ice cream
and
Chocolate cake

And what you make of it
Let me say
You get what you take from it
So be amazed
And never stop
Never stop

You gotta be brave

If you LOVE soft,
Then you already lost

But if you LOVE hard
You should let down your guard

And follow your HEART

And just in case there was any doubt…

LOVE Will Save Your Soul!

La Famille et les Amis

I know that things can really get rough
When you go it alone
Don’t go thinking
You gotta be tough
To play like a stone

Could be
There’s nothing else in our lives
So critical
As this little home

It’s not so much
What we do
As how much
LOVE
We put into that action

You can pretend
They’re not the same as you
Do we take the time
To really discover
How little
We know about each other?

Less Yesterday, More Today

* Important Disclaimer:
The following songs are a little more country than rock-and-roll, which I allow because Kevin Devine and Ben Kweller are rock stars!

Less yesterday and more today
I gotta get my head on straight

And lead with my heart
As strong as stone

Because
Some days are aces
And some days are faces
Some days are twos and threes

Blessed are the peacemakers
Except when they forget
To fight for peace
(No violence required, thank goodness!)

You gotta set your sight
On the Lord in your life
You gotta fight till your dying day

Thanks giving

Nada Surf tells me

Maybe this weight was a gift
Like I had to see what I could lift

I would like to believe that
How ’bout you?

Gratitude all the way
Especially on
Thanks giving day

Finally Woken

Another sunny day
In a typically rainy place
When October is
Just round the corner
Makes me feel
Grateful and unnerved

PMA = choosing to focus on the grateful feeling

Or as Jem says,

I’ve been thinking ’bout things
For a long while
I’m feeling so calm
I’ve got a big smile
I have a view of the sun
Right over the sea
And now I can feel
Life is flowing through me

You see I’ve finally woken
From a long sleep
I’m ready to jump
To make that blind leap
Cuz I now believe
I have the power in me
I’ve got the faith baby
I can truly be free

Child don’t worry, it’s okay
The sun is out for another day
And I say it’ll be alright
Today’s the first day of the
Rest of your life
Remember, remember,
Remember this, remember

Here she is
Telling us why
Life is
“Just a Ride”

PMA All Day (or at least as much as you possibly can)

Hey now good ones
I’ve been held back by something
That’s kept me from posting
Until I got it right

Instead of just a list
Of lots more songs
That promote
Positive Mental Attitude

Here is the first
Of a series of posts
To provide PMA
Inspiration

To make a mountain of
Your life
Is just a choice

Listen
To the voice that tells you

Always love!*

* P.S. Don’t forget to aim high above any card that you’ve been dealt!

For My Teacher

Remember that sonnet
Of mine
That ended up being about
A rabbit

Still waters run deep
You wrote to me

Dark hair in a messy bun
Glasses perched
On the end of your nose

Gesturing wildly
Always made you look
Beautiful and passionate

How can you know
How much you inspired me?

Sweet Bea

Step outside the back door
To a world that is bright and brisk
Pink petals
Lining the dirt path
Bea has made from
Running
And
Running
In circles around the house
Fast
No grass has a chance
Of growing there.

Plop down on the handed-down
backyard swing
Without so much as a
Look!
Jump up to brush off
Debris
Just leaves and twigs
No slimy slugs this time
Who knew
The dampness would have taken such a toll?

Shiver one too many times
Put up my hood
My back adorned with the stars and stripes
The name of the school
Where I taught
and laughed
and always had a song in my head.
<We’re responsible, we’re respectful, and we’re safe – Hey, we’re the best!>

Finally she comes running
To the back where I am
Almost runs past me
Does a double take
And then comes over
Ears back, restlessly pacing
Pressing her backside into my legs
Wanting
Needing
Comfort.
What is going on at the front of the house that I can’t see?
What dangers are lurking that I am unaware of?

Now she has a beloved stick in her mouth
Ready to play
The danger has passed
For the moment
She lies down to chew her stick
Peel the rough bark off
(Good job, Sweet Bea
You are your own doggie dentist!)
Now I know she is relaxed and
I can do the same.

Suddenly hungry. Need to feed
My body
And mind
And soul.
Which comes first?

Pause on the back step
Turn around
Tip my head back and look
Toward the brightness
On cue
The clouds part
And I close my eyes to the sun
As my world turns red.
